I happen to have acquired a second 10W bulb that fits my lights. Apart from drastically reduced battery life, are there likely to be any negative effects from having a 10W+10W light?

  • I have the 10 + 10w Smart lights, they are quite old now, look like they have seen better days, but still working well, I can get about 2 - 3 hours dependent upon how I use the 20w combination.
However once the battery starts to get depleted, going from "working nicely" to "dead" is very rapid. So keep them topped up, or carry a spare light.

How rapid is the "working nicely" to dead? I've put off getting any but if they can last for a bit more than 30mins I might be tempted.
  • Plax, I get 2 - 3 hrs of burn time, could probably get that down to 1.5 hrs if I used the 20w option all the time.

all NiCad Nimh batteries suffer from the "rapid death" symptom as they get near to the end of the charge, it's not really a problem, you just have to work with it, just keep a mental note of how much use the battery has had since last charge.

My smart llights are almost 10years old, they have taken a beating, and been repaired (by me) a few times, nothing much serious, just wires popping off their connections in the battery pack, usually caused by vibrations, or being dropped.
