Cant' seem to get hold of the Krylion Carbon tyres anywhere at the moment, I'm after 25s but they are rarer than hen's teeth it seems.

I was told it was down to Michelin using the same machines as they normally produce the Krylion carbons from were being used for the new ProRace 3s, which if true I find incredible.

Anyone know of any around?

  • According to Wiggles web site they are now 'discontinued & no longer available' in the 25mm size.

    I've got a set of them on my commuting bike at the moment, and to be honest, I was getting the same number of punctures with them that I was getting with other makes/models of tyres !
    Mind you, I haven't had a single puncture since fitting some of those green plastic thorn protector strips between the tyre and inner tubes about 2 months ago ! :D

    Green plastic thorn protector strips? Tell me more .........
  • 2 Reels of VELOX THORN ARMOUR 25mm wide - 2 Tough Polypropylene bands to be inserted between tyre & innertube. stops most thorns & flints.
    £11.25

    Mike Dyason sells it on his website at;
    www.mikedyason.com

    :wink:
  • Just after I fitted the thorn protector strips to my bike, I was cycling along when I heard that ominous 'click, click' sound of something stuck to my rear tyre. I stopped and checked the rear tyre and found a nasty looking flint sticking out of the tread. It had obviously penetrated the tyre with some ease (Krylion Carbon tyre), but when I removed it, the inner tube stayed intact !....the protector strip had done its job ! :D

    "discontinued" on Wiggle just means their source has dried up. I noticed that some sizes of Specialized 2008 shoes are "discontinued" :roll:

    I thought that when i heard about them too, but i've been told by someone who tried them that they messed up handling (road tyres are meant to be supple), and also made tyres and tubes harder to fit, so I never bothered going for them.
  • That may be the case wildmoustache, but I'm not too fussy when it comes to fitting them to my 'commuter' bike - all I'm concerned about is getting to work and back without any punctures !....obviously I wouldn't fit them to my carbon TT wheels when I'm racing !

    I suppose they might affect the handling a tiny bit (a Ridgeback Genesis Day 3 doesn't exactly handle all that well to start with !) but they dont really make fitting new inner tubes any harder at all, you just need to make sure the strips stay in place (i.e. between the tube and tyre)

    Sounds fiddly have to say but also sounds like a good deterrent as well. Might give them a go, if I can find some Krylion carbons that is! lol

    I had bother locating 25mm Carbons and this was a couple of months back now.

    In the end I gave up and just settled for them in their 23mm guise.
