Winter protection...MP66 shoes?

Now the nasty winter weather is upon us, the breathable summer style SPD shoes are getting completely soaked and consequently horrible to put on again after work! So the dilemma we have if commuting by bike is:-
Overshoes (about £20 and I percieve them as fiddly)
Waterproof socks (been lent a pair of Sealskinz light and they were like sponges at hometime tonight!)
Winter style/ trial SPD shoes
The MP66s can be had for less than 40 squids right now at Wiggle, quite tempting... Are there any other SPD winter shoes I should consider (has to be standard SPD cleats to use my Time Atak Carbon XS pedals)?

Nothing will stop your feet getting wet in heavy rain, but winter boots/overshoes will at least keep the worst of the wet out, and more importantly, stop your feet getting cold.
The MP66's look more like a fashion shoe! Don't think they'll keep your feet dry at all.
The Northwave Celsius look better suited, but they are £80.
Overshoes are not as fiddly as you may think. They probably take 1 minute max to put on. Make sure you get some that are large enough to go over MTB shoes if you go down this route, and are suitable for the cleat position of your shoes (ie try them on at a bike shop rather than buy online).0 -
Hi - I have a pair of these which are brilliant and at the moment on sale because they're discontinuing them. Bargain if available in your size! Always go for one size larger for 'warm air space' when wearing with winter socks.

Cheers Giantman. Have just ordered a pair of the MTB version from the same site, same price and only one size available was my size! I'm never usually that lucky0

Excellent! They are good value and the quality is fine. Been out in mine a few times and they're so comfortable. Nice people at Evernden Cycles too.0

Well I wasn't that lucky. They sent me an email to say they had run out of my size, but did have a size up. This was 2 sizes bigger than my Lake touring shoes, but at the price I thought 'what the heck' I'll give them a go.
Received them on the Friday after ordering them on Thursday (fantastic service).
They fit beautifully with nice thick socks they are really toastie and perfect for winter. Really glad they didn't have my first choice in.
So all I have to say is fantastic service from Evernden cycles and a fantastic bargain. So I really am that lucky! Happy .

Yes I totally agree with you. Evernden are very good I always find. Quick, efficient and courteous, all that you want with an LBS. I would recommend them to anyone.0
