Received my Deemax's from Merlin today :D

Want to run them tubeless but have no clue how it all works etc.

Is there a webby with more info on - googled it but couldn't get a decent hit (probably not searching right)

Was just going to run tubes but everyone here pretty much told me to join the tubeless revolution!

Thanks

    they should be tubeless ready.

put valve in. fit tubless tyre. add seat tyre with compressor inflate use.

    maybe add some tyre milk.

  • So, let me see if I have this right.....

I have a UST rim, UST tyres.

    Fit valve to rim

    Fit tyre

Inflate (with a normal track pump?)

Do I need to 'inject' anything into the wheel via the valve to 'seal' it from the inside? Sealant - if so, what one do I get?

Sorry with all these questions - really I am......

tyre milk can help as i said, but not allways.

  • ust tyres have a coating to stop air leaking through the tyre wall and the ust rims are air tight but there's no harm in popping in a bit of tyre milk to help seal between the rim and the tyre and stop the odd flat while your at it.
robust tyre leavers like soma (with the steal core) may also help.

have a look at justridingalong website they we're really helpfull to me when i got started on tubeless, dave

Cheesey, what tyres have you bought as some are easier than others?

    This is what I do.

    1. get a container of warm water with some fairy liquid in it and a cloth.

    2. Fit the valve as per the supplied instructions.

    3. Fit the tyre. The UST rims should have a deep well in the centre of them. Fit the tyre beads in here to create enough slack to get the tyre on. Not doing this is why most people say UST tyres are tight but that's what the well's for.

    4. Rub your soapy solution around the beads of the tyre to lubricate

    5. Bang the tread of the tyre all round with your hand to encourage the beads to spread towards the edges of the rim

    6. Hang the wheel onto a workstand or similar and fit the track pump

7 Pump like crazy and hopefully it'll inflate. If it does keep going to about 50psi. Keep your face away from the tyre as it "pings" onto the rim.

    8. If it doesn't seat and it's just leaking from one area, encourage that area to seat with your hand while pumping with the other.

    9. If all else fails, show the tw@t who's boss with a CO2 cartridge up the chuff. Then put the track pump on and inflate to 50psi.

    10. Now deflate, unscrew valve core, squirt in chosen sealant (not needed to seal UST tyre to UST rim but good for puncture prevention), replace vale core and reinflate to desired riding pressure.

I think that's it. I've fitted 8 UST tyres now and only one needed the CO2 treatment. Good luck.

This is how real men do it but I wouldn't advise it http://www.break.com/index/bigboystire.html

Couldn't have said it better myself, except I have never needed compressed air, just a track pump and soapy water.
