ive ecently purchased a second hand set of fox float rl forks 06 and on fitting them yesterday they are loose at the bottom. the headset looks like its missing a taper ring at the bottom.
its not an issue with my judy c's that ive taken off.
so the question is do i need a new headset or can i buy something to make it a snug fit?

remove the crown race from the old forks and fit it to the new forks.
have a read of park tools as all the info is there or even have a look in the MTB FAQ section."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Did you move over the crown race from the top of your judy's?
Damn, Nick just beat me....
Crown race looks like a flat shiny metal ring, you can usually get them off with a very thin screwdriver if you're careful.0 -
righto thanks guys. that will be the problem. i looked at that part of the forks and tried prizing it off but it was pretty tight on and i didnt know if it was a seperate part. ill use a small screwdriver and see how it goes.

you do not need to be that carefull and it does require some force., What you do have to take care of is when fitting it to the new fork as you do not want to damage the bearing surface."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
