Hi all,

Not sure whether I should be in the Road/gear forum but hey I know how helpful you all are, and it is communting related.

I've realised that my rack pack is way to small to fit everthing I need in so I'm looking for a fairly basic single pannier (I already have a briefcase pannier on the one side). Question is how does the litre descriptions of panniers correspond to the actual space! I'm looking at a fairly basic altura arran http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... %20Pannier which has a 16 litre capacity.

Obviously how much you can fit in there depends on what you're trying to fit in there!

Alternative bag (£16 more expensive) is http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... %20Pannier)

for any of you with either of these bags or something similar what kind of amount of stuff can you "stuff" in it. E.g. Could the smaller 16 litre bag fit a pair of size 10 shoes and have any space left over?

I know the obvious answer is for me to get my as* down to the local cycle shop, but I'm a bit stuck for spare time at the moment and hoped I could benefit from all your collective knowledge.

sorry for the rambling post :?
Thanks in advance

Nick

A litre size isn't really enough information for me to ascertain the usefulness of a bag, i need to know the shape, is it a solid structure, can i put bungees round it to hold more in/on it in an emergency?

If you are allergic to shops though, then i would say to go for the biggest bag - it's not really possible to have too much space and both bags appear to have adjustable clips on the front for small loads.
  • I bought Altura Dryline 56 to replace my 28l rucksack and have only needed to use one which should = 28l it fits in everything including my kit for training and a pair of size 12 boots. Very nice.
