Probably been asked before but search does not show. Looking for good road/cycling map of Mallorca. Any recommendations. Hopefully on my way over there on Saturday. Again. Not found a map yet that goes into detail on those beautiful back lanes. Usually blunder about until I hit a main road. Based in Palma this time round.

Cheers Jim :)

  • The Spanish equivalent of the OS does maps in various scales down to 1:25,000. Several bookshops in Palma stock them. Pale blue, paper cover rather than shiny cardboard.

Kompass 1:75000 no 230 covers the whole island with footpaths marked.

since you are very short of time you will just have to look in whsmiths or get a road map at the airport. When you get there you should go to the tourist info office, because I have known them to have very good maps, or they may have brochures giving details of cycle routes on or off road, or they will direct you t the best newsagent for maps.
If you had time or were near Manchester London or bristol Stanfords maps will probably have a good 1/100000 or 1/40000 of which I have seen a couple for road riding.

Decathlon in Marratxi (by the big Alcampo on the Palma-Alcudia MWay) has a series of "Mapa Excursionista" by Alpina. Only covers the Tramuntana, ie the West half of the Island, but thats where most of the fun cycling is. Failing that, El Corte Ingles in the Avenidas has some good maps as well.

The cycling map the tourist office provides isnt really up to much..

  • I found that the standard AA Map of Mallorca was fine for cycling the island and also had some walking routes on too (I did a couple of the big peaks from it). I seem to recall it does highlight the scenically good or quiter roads.

It´s 1:75000 scale (I know you wouldn´t walk with that in the UK, but the info on it was the equal and better of a specific 1:40000 scale walking map I bought through Stanfords).
It´s actually based on a German map, and is practically the same as that which is widely available in Mallorca.
  • available at ProCycle Hire in Pto Pollensa
