Had a fall last weekend and dented my old Giro Indicator, looks ok but best be safe and replace it!

I'm looking at getting a GIRO HEX, is it worth spending more than £50 and if i do what do i get for the money?

All opinions and advice welcome and much appreciated!

Always try before you buy, brands differ.

I've just bought a Giro Xen (my Christamas present  ), it felt great on my head. At £80 it's not cheap. I asked the guy in the shop what the difference was for the price and it came down to small things like the ease of use of the retention system, single piece internal padding, better, larger vents without compromising the strength etc.

I think most helmets these days will protect your head which is what they're for but the comfort factor is pretty important for the other 99.9% of the time.

I think you're more likley to get crash replacement warranties with the more expensive lids in too.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • Mate has a Hex and loves it, I have a Xen and love that,

With a more expensive helmet you are paying for the added protection it offers ( Underwrapping and Inmoulding of the outer shell, which extends underneath the EPS liner), durability/ comfort from better materials on the strap, visor, outer shell etc, better venting due to thinner but still strong vents, Adjustable visors, removable and replacement inner pads.

I am sure that I read that if you do fall off and damage the helmet you get a reduction in price when you buy another helmet (Usually only the more expensive helmets, Xen etc)

As supersonic says try before you buy, should be comfortable all around and should stay on your head without the strap fastened if you tilt your head right forward.

    Thanks people,
I'll try the hex and the xen and go for what i feel is comfier provided the extra money justifies it.
Will look at other helmets but it seems these two get great write ups from the masses!
Not trying till the weekend so any other suggestions welcome

    May i just add this.

A poorly fitting helmet is a BAD helmet.

If it does not fit right do not buy it.
