Sheared the tops of my knuckles of yesterday - really should have gone to A&E but decided to just tape down the offending flaps that were once my LH knuckles...

WHY?

Cheap s*ite Torx wrenches on 'factory installed' rotor bolts - done up by the bloody terminator - tried to use the fiddly little T25 job (even with persuasion from a mallet to get the thing to turn and et voila blood everywhere!!!!

Sore as feck and rounded wrench!

Nicklouse: I make you right on cheap tools - will be getting Park T25 P-wrench!

or if you take it the other way, wear gloves when using cheap tools.

    Parktools :?:SheldonBrown
  • Can't wear 'em Nick (when using any kind of tools...)

I cant illustrate just how crap they were - they were 'X tools [generic Taiwan s***]' and from CRC but should have just gone for the P Tools T25 only.....

The problem being that the T25 key is so small its unbelievable - like an 4mm allen key (physical size) so no leverage could be gained.

Also, the bolts were on sooooo tight its unreal. I mean I am pretty strong and couldnt budge em - may just take them to LBS tbh - although hate admitting defeat!

Pour hot water from a kettle over the bolts, it can help soften the threadlock.

Just don't leave the tool on the bolts (or touvh them) when pouring the hot water over your hand or it might take your mind off the pain on the back of your hand for a while!

Nothing worse than a hot tool!

Only cheap tools that actually work are hammers (provided the head dosen't come off), most other cheap tools usually work better as hammers than what they're meant for
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • I have seen some cheap tools break easy. What about this Draper T25 cheaper than the park one http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=18104 , i have the Draper Hex Key set with those type handles and i have found them to be pretty strong and the set was £16 compared to parks £36. I have found in the past that Draper tools are pretty good quality.

Forget getting MTB branded T25's, get a Halfords Pro socket set, the one good thing to come out of Halfords. Life time guarentee.
