I am looking to equip a new race bike with either the 2008 Campagnolo Centaur or Chorus groupsets (both with the carbon chainsets).

Both appear almost identical in terms of weight, features, build materials, possibly performance? Is there really such a noticable difference between the two in any respect, and is Chorus worth the extra cost?

Any reviews on the centaur groupset would be welcome

  • The main difference (aside from a bit of weight) is that the chorus ergo levers allow you to change up and down more than one gear at a time, at least that was the case for 2007. Also the chorus crank arms are hollow and use lighter ring bolts.

i had to make exactly that decision a couple of weeks ago!

Went for the 2008 centaur with carbon cranks, just couldn't see how chorus was worth the extra £300!! Spent the money saved on upgrading the wheels.
    Manchester wheelers

    PB's
    10m 20:21 2014
    25m 53:18 20:13
    50m 1:57:12 2013
    100m Yeah right.

Another big difference is that there are no Chorus hubs....you get Record....and Centaur hubs are essentially a silver version of Mirage with a fancier skewer.
I'd rather walk than use Shimano
