I want to buy a Shimano Hone crank / BB for my Carrera Fury

Can any knowledgeable types tell me if this is this suitable?

I have never changed a BB before. I am reasonably competant and I have a good manual, but I don't have a workstand.. should I do it myself?
I'd happily pay my LBS to do it, but they charge a fortune for parts, and I don't know if they would let me source the parts myself.. any thoughts on this too?
Any input appreciated!

It would fit the bike - but you need to have the frame faced first which requires specialist tools.0

Supersonic -thanks!0

you'll also need crank puller and bb exctractor for your current setup and then a HTII tool to fit the new ones.0

Your LBS should have no problem fitting parts you supply. I'd get them to do it considering you'll need them to face it anyway. Should only be about £20 or so for everything.0

Thanks guys.
After I learned the bit about facing, I decided I will ask my LBS to do it. I haven't spoken to them as yet as I can't afford the crank at the moment.0 -
Ok guys, another question (bear with me!)..
I have just done a bit of searching on these forums and learned that LX Hollowtech II are the same as Hone's. In that case it comes down to this..
Does the black finish on the crank arms of the Hone's wear off where your shoes rub?
(silly, I know.. but if there is nothing in it, then cosmetics matter)
If it does then I will get the LX's.
Thanks again!0 -
The hone axle is stronger than the LX one as it is all mountain rather than XC. The finish didn't come off in the 6 months I had mine.. Sold the bike, no probs with crankset, was very good. Have an LX one at the moment, also extremely good. Depends what riding you are doing and if you need the extra strength, as Hone does weigh slightly more, but looks cool as!!0

The Hone doesn't have a stronger axle. The finish is the only difference.0

Single track mag did a group test on cranks last month, the Hone didn't do too bad especially as it was up against XT, XTR and other similar spec cranks. They reckon it doesn't scuff badly (and this was definitely a factor in their reviews as others like the XTR did scuff) and would recommend it as best choice for all mountain riding (although they prefered the XT for XC).It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0
