hey all just got my first dual suspension bike and i've set up the pressure for controlling compression dampening(red knob). But got no idea what to set up with pressure in the one with the black knob. Don't even know what its for?

I'm 80kg. Any suggestions?

cheers.

and by the way you are going about it the wrong way IF it is the air swinger.

so it is a swinger 3 what? coil or air?

    and what year? 2005/6/?

    Just FYI.
The term is "damping," not dampening.
You don't hydrate it, it damps the movement, removes the shock effect.
    It damps the shock.
    Common mistake.

    By knob, you mean valve!

The black one is your spring and so you push the loose o-ring on the shaft against the can, sit on the bike carefully and then get off again. If the o-ring has moved less than 30% of the shock stroke reduce the pressure, if it's moved more increase the pressure.

This is called setting your sag.
"Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."
  • Set up the SAG first as per Splashers recommendations (main Air chamber),

Then fettle the Red valve afterwards as this is the SPV valve (Adjusts the point at which the suspension over comes the Stable platform valve and starts to allow the shock to work),

Then lastly adjust the Rebound knob, you want it so that when you compress the suspension by pressing the rear end down by hand (fast) by holding the seat and as soon as it reaches the point where you can no longer press it anymore, immediately pull back up on the seat again (fast) and the shock should return to its normal length a fraction after the wheel is lifted up off the floor.

If the shock is at full length before the wheel is off the floor the rebound is too fast and the seat will buck you up the jacksie.

If it returns to full length any slower it wont be ready for the next bump.

( got this last rebound set up bit off a front and rear shock basics guide by TF tuned, on a free MBUK DVD, called LIVE to Ride )

    Hope this helps?

please not that there are max and min pressures in the manual for the red SPV chamber that the shock Must comply with.
