Advice.... New bike

Hi all, i've been riding for about a year on my wieghty house of a bike and recently being riding on trails etc. and have decided to invest in a hardtrail mtb i have a budget of around £300 - £350, after looking round various website i came up with a shortlist; Mongoose TYAX COMP , TYAX ELITE , GT AVALANCHE 3.0 disc. any advice/suggestions would be grealty appricated.

    Have you had a read of the What Bike thread on this forum? A few other models in the price band worth testing.
  • Yeah thats where i got these two from (vury helpful) !!!, im stuck between the Mongoose Tyax Elite and GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc, which is best performace wise ?

    IMO, the Tyax is the better off road due to its damped suspension fork - the the GT has the better frame and a few better components. I would go and see them in the flesh, have a sit on them and even ask for a short test ride to get a feel.

    You can get a GT Avalanche 2.0 Disc 2007 for under £350 and as i have said in previous posts i managed to get this years model 2008 GT Avalanche 2.0 disc for £370 from leisurelakes, they gave me this price for a sale there and then about 8 weeks ago.

    Don't think you will get much better for around £350 ish

  • '07 Mongoose Tyax Elite can be had for £230 at Evans.......that's what I have just got anyway!

    I don't know anything about bikes, but if the above was great value at rrp (£280, and scored 9/10 in review), then another 50 quid sounds like a no brainer to me!
