I'm possibly going down to Kielder forest in the Spring time. I have no knowledge of the area .
Does anyone out there in cyber space, have any opinion on what it's like for XC MTBing?
Also where would be a good base for exploring the forest?
Cheers.

  • Fantastic downhills with some really fun uphills also

Debatable if it is better than Glentress, both have their merits so I would say about on par with each other. I hear they are improving Kielder also so the trails may have grown by then.

The trails are also quite new and are weathering really really well, unlike some other places like Dalby. Hats off to the trails builders on this one.

    Definately worth a visit

The village is at the bottom of the course along with The Bike Place shop.

Oh and also featured in this months MBR so plenty review in there. :D

Also, check out our club site for pics, vids and reviews of Kielder as we have been there a couple of times now. Link is in my sig

  • How have these trails held up to the winter weather so far?

May try and give them a try over the chrimbo period if they're nott too muddy/washed.

Thanks for the info on Kielder guys!
The more I hear the more I like.
Do all the purpose built trails start at Kielder village? We would probably mix a long 50-60 km XC route, with some of the fun stuff.
Will probably venture down that way late in April 08.

  • I think all of them start here more or less by starting on an uphill then downhill red, you can also link the ride with the Newcastleton route as I'm quite sure I have heard that is open now. This should up it to about 40-50km. I'll get some extra details from my club and get back to you.

Nice one Keith. Nothing better than getting information from those in the know.

  • As Vice Chairman of the Kielder Trail Reavers (the voluntary trail building group) I would like to remind you (if you were'nt aware), that the Deadwater Trail is now open and others are in the planning stages. Anyone wishing to help with this exciting local development can find out more on http://www.kieldertrailreavers.com/forum or from our site under Kielder banner.

    All for now,

    Ian Bell

It's the Deadwater trails that are open Pict, check out the link above for the routes and distance.

Maybe a Newcastletown link was just a dream
