Hello, am looking to buy a cheep mountain bike that can stand some downhill riding on. Iv just got into road cycling (bought myself a trek 1.5) am looking to buy a bike I can use when the weathers not so great so instead of winter bike I,d rather get a mountain bike.
I was looking at the lbs were I got my trek and he said I shouldn,t be looking at anything less than the a bike like the trek 4300 disc at £350. I was also looking In Halfords at the Carrera Vulcan at £230. As far as I can tell they are both very similar bikes But the halfords bike is £120 cheeper so am thinking about that.
Just woundering if there are any opinions on the bikes and what is better value for money?.
cheers

Both are excellent value bikes, the extra money for the trek going into a lighter frame and higher quality Shimano and Bontrager parts. I would expect a better fork for that money, its rather short on travel and undamped. Have a read of the What Bike thread for more options.0
