I currently do runs for leisure and fitness and tend to do 20/40 mile rides from home but would like to sometimes start further afield - what carriers do you recommend and why?

Thanks in anticipation.

presume you mean car racks etc?

What are you going to be putting it on?

Hatch back, saloon, estate? something with a tow bar?, roof rack?

I have an 'xrack3' for putting my bikes inside my hatchback, Golf,
These guys have it nailed, I use it for fettling, and storage, as well
as transport, my pal has a rack as well so that we can transport 2 bikes
side by side. This means the bikes aren't visible, are easy to get in and out,
I can also do minor adjustments pre-ride if necessary.
They are safe and secure in the car, if you need a 'pee' stop on the way home,
and the way fuel prices are going, there is no loss of fuel economy, as the is
with a roof or back car mounted carriers.
Check out ...xrack3.co.uk. there is a picture of 2 road bikes inside a hatchback
    a 'Nissan Almera' I believe.
