halfords cycle disc brake cleaner is very good. ( not the car one)

    Meths is also good.

meths is basically the same but has an additive in it.

what you need to look for is alcohol based cleaners and not oil based cleaners.

for squeeks have a look at the topic in the mtb FAQ's

but be wary of copper slipping the backs of the pads. (not a fan).

If you're after isopropyl alcohol, have a look in your local Maplin (or their online store), that's where I got some from.

Also, most CD/DVD cleaning solution is isopropyl alcohol. Think you'd be able to find in most supermarkets.

Sends you blind though :D !!

DON'T be tempted to use the car type cleaner, it's way too harsh for bike brakes.

Another possible alternative is cellulose thinners.

Believe it or not, I've also found hot soapy water and plenty of elbow grease to be an excellent method of cleaning discs and pads, followed by a good dowsing in clean cold water. Couple of hard stops and you're back in business!
