Not sure if anyone has got, or used, one of these but at this price I am tempted.

I have read plenty of reviews but as ever, personal feedback is always best. I would only be using it for fun rather than serious clips to be uploaded anywhere and would think it'd be ok for that. Just something to record that 'fantastic singletrack at the weekend', type of stuff.

Most reviews range from: good for what it is, average if not used for top notch recordings, to downright terrible!

If anyone has any comments they could add before I shell out my hard-earned I'd be most grateful.

Cheers.

  • I bought one last week. Still haven't played with it properly yet, but here's what helped me:

One strapped in a rocket: http://youtube.com/watch?v=-8JgHb0q7Bw

Those rockets pull 20-50g when lifting off and it freefell from approx 2000ft and still works. Durability good. Quality is ok.

Tthey need to be mounted on your helmet or a damper rather than directly on the frame as the lack an image stabiliser meaning you get tearing/waves on vibration.

For the cash they're pretty good. Got mine off ebuyer for £88.99: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128507
  • http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=atc+2k theres some vids of its quality. have a look on ebay some go for £55 not bad eh! hope this helps bud

Thanks guys. It's always nice to get some 'live' feedback. I'll have to check out those clips tonight (work frowns on youtube!)

Chris, what size SD card do you use in yours?

  • the 2gig(biggest you can use i think) card records 60min on the 640x240 resolution by the way

  • I was thinking og going as extreme as a bullet cam but this looks like a right bargain. thanks for the heads up

(this reply is basically a reminder for myself as my work doesn't like youtube either and i wanna see the quality!)

I've got a 1 gig one that I had from my digicam (it's a Sandisk one). Does 30mins (enough for my commute).

Thanks for that. The picture looks much better in the rocket clip but maybe that's because there's less bumping around (while taking off). Some of the clips on YouTube are a bit 'wobbly' but maybe that's the compression when uploading.

This is definitely on the birthday list, now!

    Helmet cams
    Hmmm
    This is my professional opinion
as someone who deals with this type of camera every day ( I must have about 30 of the things) I think the ones sold as a helmet cam are massively overpriced in general. This one seems pretty bulky and really ugly but at £79 you cant go wrong! the 2gig card will record about 1.9 hours of action before getting full. the important thing to find out is what happens when it does? if it stops great. if it records over your humungous tailwhip at the start of the ride (yeah reckon I can do one! not)not quite so great. If its too big mount it on the bars like a light!
I would normally expect to pay about £100 for a solid state recorder that will record eight hours and about £40 for the camera (dont get the 380 TVL jobs) that would then be made up in to a neat little pack.
I did see a golfball sized (and shaped) recorder at a security show this year and will be getting one very soon it will record for 2 1/2 hours on its own and will test it out on a few rides. tiz a very neat little thing. if anyone is remotely interested I will report back....
I never touched it! It was broke when I got here.
  • clas would you not recommend those shown on http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/mtb-bmx-bullet-cameras.htm is it a bit ott?
I'd want something good quality but £345 is quite a bit but the ATC 2K camera seems a bit on the cheap side. or is it just me?

For:-Price, self contained unit - no extra wires/units needed, .easy to download
Against:- Can take a few rides to get optimum set-up. Only 2GB memory.

Some people say that the quality is not as good as the expensive 'bullet' cameras but looking at the video on http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/mtb-bmx-bullet-cameras.htm and I would say that the ATC is comparable with it.
I carry enough in my back pockets without having a battery pack and storage device as well plus the trailing wires.

Search youtube for hipponokloo for some of my videos. I have left my first video on there - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmglDQ7CX-c - handlebar mounted and a bit twisted.
Windows Movie Maker is a good, easy to use editing program and it's free! I know there are better programs out there but it suits my purposes!
