Music on Handlebars?
This might sound mad, but bear with me. I sometimes find long solo rides a bit boring, and wouldn't mind some music to listen to - radio or MP3. I won't wear headphones while riding though, as I worry about missing vital sounds. I want to stay safe.
I wondered though whether anyone has tried attaching some form of music player with a small speaker to a bike? In principle, I thought this might work. I had a look around, and the closest I came to a solution was an iPod with a handlebar mount and a micro-speaker attached. Not sure whether the mount would cope with the micro-speaker though, so there has to be a better way. Or perhaps not.

Where headphones but place them in front of your ears, towards your cheeks. Works like a champ for me. I hear everything, inside and outside. Keep the volume at a fair level. Works great.0

I listen to voice podcasts & find that I can hear cars just fine with the phones in. I wouldn't listen to music like this though.0

I tend to dislike gimicky ipod dock thingies, but I did find this:

It seems like a good idea, but I have no idea well it actually works.
Edit: found this too:

Just listen to your personal radio or mp3 player with an earpiece in one ear....don't faff about with speakers on your handlebars.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0

i can see a lot of sense in integrating kit into bars and think that might start to emerge in the next few years. ... computer ... powermeter ... MP3 ... maybe even GPS.0

I was wondering the other day about a couple of small 'satellite' speakers situated where your endplugs are....0

If they live up to the claims...
Alternatively an Ipod speaker case can be picked up from many places cheaply<b><i>He that buys land buys many stones.

Anyone use these? The theory makes sense. For £7.50, might be worth a shot.0 -

Now that is exactly what I was looking for. As you say though, 4kicks, it's pricey in spite of help from the dollar exchange rate.0
