I have recently bought a Race Face X-Type FR/DH Bottom Bracket off ebay but do not know if i made the right descision because it was damaged a bit. What he says on the item is "This item is new but whilst fitting it to my bike I damaged the plastic sleeve between the crank tube and the bottom bracket bearing" is this easily fixed and can i buy a replacement. Here is a pic that he took -

That's unusual... I swear my Raceface BB didn't have that bit!Rule 64:
Cornering confidence generally increases with time and experience. This pattern continues until it falls sharply and suddenly.

Looks like one of the bearing sheilds. Think you might have bought a duffer there...0

you need new cups, get Shimano's Hollowtech II cupset (as used on XT and Saint) its a much longer lasting bearing than Race Face and cross compatiblecheck out my riding - www.robcole.co.uk Banshee Factory Team rider, Da Kine UK Team rider, www.freeborn.co.uk www.eshershore.com0

My dad may have found a solution and has made a new bearing shield out of aluminium at work, it has been pressed in and is an exact replica of the plastic one. We are going to fit it tonight. Hoping it works.0

not a good idea...the bottom bracket cups come with nylon inserts to stop any damage occuring to the steel crank axle
people have tried replacement bottom bracket / bearings where the metal of the bearing is sitting on the crank axle and it basically damages the axle over time...and its time for new cranks
just get new bearing £35 for Hollowtech II and you won't damage your axle / crankcheck out my riding - www.robcole.co.uk Banshee Factory Team rider, Da Kine UK Team rider, www.freeborn.co.uk www.eshershore.com0 -
aluminium can't damage steel. The orginals had a aluminium reducer bush anyway...0
