Hello, I'm currently being 'cut in half' by my Selle XLR XP saddle. It's fantasticly light, which is great but I cannot go any distance, even wearing Fox High Freq shorts.

I don't mind about cost, happy to pay any price for top quality.

I mainly ride country road and field road/bridleway.

Bike is Scott Scale 10 but changed to Racing Ralph tubeless and XTR clipless pedals. Bought this bike due its amazing ability to conquer hills, and its speed.

Can anyone recommend a top end light, comfortable saddle?

THANKS IN ADVANCE IF YOU CAN HELP.

Can't really help, I've got the same setup. With padded linings I've found that I've got used to the saddle and can now ride comfortably for 2+ hours. Took some getting used to though. Have you tried padded liners?

My favourite is the WTB Rocket V Stealth, a lot of folks love the Fizik Gobi.

But as everyone's arses are different, my fave might be a razor to you!

  • problem is not everyone likes the same saddles, I personally hate v saddles, I end up with an arse like a baboon. My all time favourite is the wtb sst 98, but they are no longer available. My latest bike has a fizik gobi wingflex and that I can get on with.
  • you won't like that I ride on then....

  • haha nice one mate. funny enough I have a specialised saddle like that, and it cained my arse, but on my rocky mountain slayer I must sit more upright and its not too bad.

Fizik Gobi gets my vote although it took me a few rides to sus out the right adjustment/position.

Not ultra light but maybe thats why its more comfortable? For me any way!

I like the fizik Gobi as well, I ride without a pad for 2+ hours no problem

Thanks chaps, I think I'll try the fizik as it seems to be rated highly for comfort - it must worth the trade-off in weight if it means you can still enjoy the ride after 1hr in the saddle.

    thanks again for your help
  • I've just got a gobi for 55 from merlin! Very firm, but still comfy. Cannot wait for it t break in though. It really isn't very heavy though.

The new Fizik Gobi XM K:IUM 2008 is 25% off at cycle surgery so I got that - it's 8% lighter too.
  • try the SDG Bell Air ST in I Beam fitting and get a Carbon I beam post from either SDG or Kore do a cheaper one, get great reviews, comfy and very very light with I beam system, perefect for a lightweight bike.
  • I've got a Gobi and i don't find it all that comfortable. 1-2 hours fine but anymore and it gets a bit much. I've tried a bike that had a SDG bel air and it was very comfy. That will be my next buy.
