What do you NOT like about your bike?

People understandably rave about their new bikes and feel an attachment to machines that have carried them over many miles, we hear all the time about the "stiff yet vertical compliant" character of modern carbon frames, or the "steal is real" smoothness of a trusty 631 tubed old faithful; but will anyone own up to features that they don't like about their bike?

This needn't be something that ruins the bike - it can still be wonderful in many ways, just lacking in one particular area. Perhaps it's just something you'd like to improve on the bike. Don't feel you need to limit yourself to your current bikes, but it's probably best to keep it to bikes you have owned to avoid any flames ;-)

Just gone back to my heavy winter steel hack bike, it feels SO smooth over rough tarmac. I love my lightweight speed machines but I may go back to steel for my distance bike

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail
Hills are just a matter of pace
  • Tight mudguard clearance at the front, getting that swishing sound as the mudguard gums up after a muddy section of road. Otherwise its perfect.

having to clean it after a dirty run or not being able to ride it in the rain
  • I can't ride it because my foot is still bust!!! :(
  • Shabby OE TruVativ Power Spline BB - gone through two now in under two years. Can't really justify getting a new chainset to free myself from its evil clutches just yet (after all, buying a new bike this week :D ) but as soon as I've got a spare few notes knocking around, it's gone.
  • I don't like the saddle and racing 7 wheels that came with my Kuota Kharma.

The bike I am useing just now is a single speed winter trainer 46x18 its a comfy ride due to the 700x28 tyres but very slow compared to my Spesh Roubaix.

A few weeks ago I spend £20 at Halfords and a few hours work to get it from this...

If I could improve anything it could be the brakes and how fast it goes up hills

I dislike the gear cables that come out of the side of the hoods on both my bikes. Surprisingly it doesn't bother me that the groupsets on both my bikes are bottom of the range..........just the fricking wires!!!

I've not used Campagnolo, but I'm certain my next bike will be Campagnolo because of this.

Can't ride it IN my car while I drive.

How does that work - not being able to ride it in the rain? Is the frame made of papier mache?

  • The fact that all my bikes are far better than I am (especially going downhill).
You hear that? He's up there... mewing in the nerve centre of his evil empire. A ground rent increase here, a tax dodge there? he sticks his leg in the air, laughs his cat laugh... and dives back down to grooming his balls!

best bike - absolutely nothing ...

winter bike - pretty much how i want it apart from wish T/tube was 1 cm longer & seat angle a degree less ... :x

i have had to have easton seatpost with extra layback to make up for this ....
  • The saddle which is the fourth I have tried, the ride which loosens your fillings and the fact that it does very little better than my old steel steed.
  • The fact that my commuters' frame is just too darn small. Purchase in haste, repent at leisure...
    Road: 2006 Trek 1500
    Off: 2009 Carrera Fury

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.
  • Commuter:Frame too small and i can't fit proper mudguards

Best Bike: The decals (very old fashioned looking) and the fact that because it was so expensive i can''t do anything about the commuter for a while. Still when i'm ridng it i can't see the decals and i really appreciate how well it fits.
