Middleburn Cable Oilers and full cable runs

Hi,
My rear mech shifting is getting worse and worse - I have a full-sus bike (Spec FSR XC) which has a fully enclosed cable - ie no exposed inner cable, running all down the length of the downtube etc. My previous bikes have all had mostly "naked" cable with only short sleeves of outer cable and I think that these were much easier to maintain.
It's got to stage where I will have to replace the inner and outer cable (again) but I wonder if the Middleburn Cable Oilers that I've seen advertised would improve things? The only thing is that I can't work out where I'd fit them - with my set-up the only options would be at the shifters and at the rear mech.
Can you tell me if these little devices will fit in at these sites please?
PS I have LX shifters (I think 2005-ish models) and the same vintage XT rapid rise rear mech

Is it reasonably a reasonably new cable? If so then it could well be cable stretch, remedy by re-fettling your rear mech as per park tools.
If they are old cables then take the inner out entirely and flush the outer through with WD-40 or GT-85 till it comes out clear, leave to dry on a radiator. Whilst it is drying wipe the inner cable down with the same stuff and remove any rough points with emery paper or replace them. Add a drop of wet or dry teflon lube and quickly push the inner through and reset your rear mech.
If that doesn't work check your cassette and chain are not worn and replace is necessary.0 -
The cable is only a couple of months old0

Almost certainly cable stretch then, simple re-adjust your rear mech as per park tools0

re the fitting. anywhere in the middle. yes it does involve cutting the outer.
But better quality cables eg flying snakes can help.
also have it checked over for what the problem really is."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I thought you couldn't fit snakes to bikes with fully outer cable runs, mainly due to not getting enough outer in a pack.0

The Carbon Kevlar outer casing makes the Flying Snake 30% lighter than most other cable sets. The Flying Snake is a result of the latest research in transmission technology. It is no doubt the best compromise between lightness and solidity now available. The Flying Snake performs devilishly well under the most extreme conditions.
* 100% Rustproof
* Ultra Lightweight (-30%)
* Enhanced durability
* Easy to set up
* No maintenance required
* Fits both MTB and Road bikes
* Quick, precise direct transmission
* Watertight internal jacket
* Anti-UV potection
* PP Coating
* Main Jacket includes 18 carbon-steel wires
* Pack Contains
* 2 Stainless Steel inner wires 2000mm
* 1 Carbon/Kevlar outer casing 1800mm
* 10 Ferrules
* 2 Cable ends
should be long enough? :roll:"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I'd measure, wasn't there a guy with a specialised FS bike with full outers in large that had trouble with the amount of outer? Perhaps measuring before buying might be an idea. If you can get them then do, I've fitted two sets and they are totally flawless through the worst conditions, if you can then get them.
AMAZING!0
