Tyres - direction of rotation

Does this really matter? I'm always careful to put the tyres on the correct way around. However, my rear Armadillo has started delaminating after 3000 miles - which seems a bit soon. I realised that after an unsheduled deflation last month, I must have replaced the tyre in the reverse orientation (it was cold, dark and wet) - could this be a factor? This has happened before to me with Armadillos - but after 6000 miles.

It got me thinking about tyre forces - presumably the rear puts up with a lot of stress when setting off, but the highest loads must be under braking. The front will only suffer under braking. Does anyone know if swapping the direction can wreck the tyre?

I'm going to get Marathon Plusses for a change.

Remember a thread a while ago, it went into detail about tractors, 4x4s, cars, mtbs roadies etc and what tyres had a specific rotation and why.

The end conclusion was that for a bike, it didn’t matter.
