Right folks, i've had a search round the forum and i can't seem to find what i'm looking for so here goes.
I seem to have quite a bit of play in my bottom bracket (sounds painful) so i've got myself a locating cup removing tool. I've taken the left side of, which is plastic, and then i couldn't shift the drive side. I now realise it's right hand thread after reading the article on the park tools site. Anyway, i couldn't find an article about service the bottom bracket itself, so am i right in saying that they are a sealed unit and mine needs replacing? Or is there a way of tightening it up to stop the play?
All advice much appreciated
Danny

It's sealed, at least the middle of the road preference is. Your best bet, since it looks as though this is your first time doing this, take it to a shop and let them do it. They will torque it to a nearly precise foot/lbs setting and give it back to you. The last time I replaced my own, it ran around $30 US. But it could be different now.
I suppose you could go high end and have one built for your rig and then have the wrench shop service it, but if you aren't competing, why go that far?
Just take it in and have it serviced. It's not worth the hassle, and it's cheap to have done.0 -
