Talas Forks Service & Tools

I've downloaded all the web pages from the fox website for servicing my 07 Talas forks. Looks OK, instructions have great pics etc.
Thinking of having a go myself. I've read that people on other forums have done this.
Questions:
Ideally you need a special tool, a Talas IFP tool to release the pressure when dismantling the forks and to recharge the IFP chamber when reassembling, anyone know where to get one from in the UK? I've heard that you can use a standard football inflater needle to do this but I ain't happy bodging this.
I think the IFP chamber is pressurised with nitrogen, would repressurising it with air be a problem.
Is this a crazy idea and should I stump up the cash to get my LBS to do it / send the forks off for a service?
I'm fairly handy, built a couple of bikes from scratch and fully stripped and serviced my old Mozo Pros in the past (I know the Talas forks are in a different league).
Any thoughts?

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
