... and fitting new brake blocks all round.

Man my missus is going to be pi55ed with me when she gets back, I was supposed to be doing DIY.

However, for a spanky clean whirring sparkly bike with a fresh set of brakes its worth the abuse I figure.

When I said I wanted to fix new brakes she retorted its only two months or so since I got the bike, why am I changing them now (they've done about 800 miles and are nearly worn down).

She might want me to die (good death in service benefits you see), but I want to live, on a shiny bike that stops when I need it to!

Is your mild obsession with your two wheeled friend causing strife in your house?

yes, another Sunday is almost over and i have been out on me bike since 9am, home 4pmish, the girlfriend doesn't quite get my obsession with my bicycle and doesn't understand how it can give me so much joy. But it does. Been going out with her now for 5 years, been biking longer and before i met her so she just has to put up with it, guess if i make dinner i can get in the good books again hahaha

    tis all fun though :D

My bike has it's own room - but that room has to be TIDY. :(

I spent two hours cleaning my bike yesterday on the basis that a) it needed it after last week's weather and b) the forecast for the next few days suggested some dry days. Sure enough no rain last night and went out for a 30 miler today. All roads, all dry, get in, bike filthy. Is this my punishment for no p**ctures lately?!

My Mrs does get jelous with the amount of time I spend with my bike and I quote, "Can't you just leave that thing alone".
    It's all good.

I rarely clean my bikes tbh, just scrape muck off thats stopping me fixing bits.

my gf doesnt live with me so i dont get that much strife, besides, we've only been together for about 5 weeks and when i asked her out i made a point of wearing my "love me love my bike" t-shirt (says it in large letters) so she knows what she's getting into and is contemplating giving it a go. :)

  • I spent a significantly shorter amount of time cleaning my chain/rear mech and realigning my gears. However, I did spend a bit more on cleaning products/gadgets than the wife knows about..... (~£30 on chain cleaner (one of those clipon things), park mech cleaning brush, degreaser and lube)

I have a baby, so getting out for long rides at the weekend isn't going to happen often :(

I'd say after five years, dinner isn't going to get you the results you aren't seeing and haven't seen yet. Try a ring with a nice rock in it. 5 years, and no comittment? Sheesh. The bike ride is the least of your problems. Buy the book or return it to the library.
  • Since I commute to work with my bike, my wife recently told me that she considers my time spent working on it as equivalent to working on the car, or yard work, or household chores.

So she didn't at all resent my Sunday afternoon of new tires, headset adjustment, and rear hub service, mostly performed in the entryway of the house because the garden shed was dark and rather chilly.

I think I just may be the luckiest man in the world. :D

...I spent an hour and half cleaning and oiling my work bike- a rare event-and now the bloody thing's creaking! :? :x ...I wish I had left it dirty...
...all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...
  • Does riding through puddles and then spraying with WD40 count as cleaning? If not, I think mine needs cleaning :D
