Hi guys,

Where does SRAM rive and force equate to say shimano?

is Rival like 105, and Force like DA/Ultegra, from my understanding(What i have managed to find on the net) SRAM Red there isn't a shimano equlivelnt from a weight point of viea, and compag do have an equivelent as such?

Thanks

  • I remember reading that SRAM Red was brought out to rectify some shifting faults on the Force Groupset - but I would seek opinion from other posters to see if this is in fact true.

SRAM Force was the top of the range when it first came out, with SRAM Red now moving up to the top of the SRAM tree.
  • I haven't ridden all these groups, but, here's my understanding:

Force: weightwise similar to DA and Chorus. But doesn't function as well as either. A number of recalls.

Red: as other poster says, attempts to rectify the issues with Force. Weightwise, sits alongside Record (both above DA)

Rival. Similar to Force, but a bit more weight in the brakes etc. Better value than Force. Weightwise, similar to Centaur or Ultegra SL
  • I hear it was difficult to get replacement parts for SRAM sets, which put me off. Were pretty expensive compared to the tried and tested alternatives too. Rival groupsets can now be had at vast reductions from many sellers and especially on ebay. Have got to confess I haven't had a go due to quite limited ammount of bikes that come as standard with them but they have had a broadly decent write up in the press.
  • All of the above is not correct.

Force is LIGHTER than Dura Auce shifts as well Stops better and apart from an early issue with the Ti bolt in the brake has been faultless.

Price wise equal to RECORD not Chorus

Force has seen me move after 15 years on Campag and i must say it performs extremely well

    Rival is Equivalent to ULTEGRA

OK - groan now if you must - but is any of the SRAM stuff compatible with either Campag or Shimano? I am thinking particularly of the rear derailleurs whcih look pretty smart but have no idea how the cable pull / cassette spacing works out.
I\'m sure I had one of those here somewhere

I believe that you will be more than satisfied with any of the top of the line shifting
systems. They all work well. For whatever reason there is always someone who
will send in his "horror" story about just about anything, swearing that it's all junk.
Get the best you can afford if you ride alot. If you're trying to pimp out your bike
I hear Campy Record is the way to go.

  • Chains and cassette's may be compatible:
