Gutted for him. But there are some things more important than the bike, eh?

Bet of luck to you Saul - Hope you find something you enjoy doing!

  • Good luck to Saul for the future. That is truly a shame.

More here including Roger Legeay's comments.

I've admired from afar the courage and tenacity Saul Raisin has displayed in fighting back from his accident so it saddens me to see that he won't be returning to the peleton for the time being at least.

I wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do next and am sure, given the determination he's shown, that he'll be successful at it.

It is sad to read this about Saul Raisin, though I think Legeay has handled it well in terms when to give this test and news, allowing Saul Raisin back onto his feet, back to what appears to be full physical health, just from reading Saul Raisin's website, it looks like he is totally independent, driving, moving where and when he wants, has a new relationship it reads, ..Legeay has been wise to let him rebuild before delivering this news and pay him all the way through 2008. I think I would be grateful just to return to a normal life from that accident and it looks like Saul has...professional cycyling would have been the icing on the cake really and he is young so can surely do new and interesting things with his life , and perhaps his deficits will improve?
  • interesting to see the difference between Cofidis' treatment of Armstrong and CA's treatment of Raisin.....

Legeay comes across as a decent human being. Caring about Saul's well being AND still paying him.

From what I've read Legeay seems like one of the good guys, Boardman and Vaughters have both praised him amongst others.

I have a good impression of Legeay as Lemond tells of Legeay refusing to accept or organise team wide doping in 1992.., then his treatment of Raisin seems decent too...if Raisin fell and hit his head again- a very high chance in a bunch 80 days a year, then Legeay would have that on him I guess. Raisin says his neuro psych tests were very good.

This would be the people who continued to pay him through his convalesence, despite the fact that he never turned a pedal in Cofidis colours?

Legeay has always been an upstanding gentleman of the sport. A sort of anti-Lefevere if you will.

I wish Saul all the best, whatever happens in the coming year.

Legeay was also the guy who tipped off the police about Festina's 'medical programme' in 1998.
  • Armstrong was well treated by cofidis btw. I would trust armstrong's version of any event about as much as alistair campell's, and alistair campbell is about as trustworthy as hungry rottweiler.
