Changing pedals - clearly stupid question
I've never changed pedals before. I've got the right spanner/wrench. Is it just a simple case of undoing the old ones and putting the new ones on?
Is there anything I need to be careful of? It's just that I hear things about pedals being 'too tight' sometimes.
Sorry to be so thick!

hmmm ive just grabed a normal spanner and took them off.
What did through the first time (i had a pedal come off while i was out riding) is the thread direction, can't remember which side it is but one will be typically clockwise, one will be counter clockwise0 -

Stiff pedals are much easier to remove with a pedal wrench as they are longer for better leverage.
Also be careful with your hands on the drive side pedal as they can slip and hit the chainring - shift onto the larger chainring so if you do slip it will hurt less than hitting the teeth and cutting yourself.
Other than safety and turning it the right way, it's pretty simple0 -
yes, hitting the chain rings hurts ALOT! took all the skin off one set of knuckles, after that i put a towel over the chainrings!BMC TM01 - FCN 0

Nah, its not a stupid question - although I would say that as I posted something similar the other day!.
WD40 eventually did the trick for me but I would advise using a pedal/spanner wrench with plenty of leverage.spasypaddy wrote:yes, hitting the chain rings hurts ALOT! took all the skin off one set of knuckles, after that i put a towel over the chainrings!
Oh yes, I know that feeling!0 -
The way I remember is; RH pedal RH thread, LH pedal LH thread.0

Both tighten forward and loosen rearward. It's easiest to put them ON with the bike upside down, and to PULL the top of the rear wheel as you PUSH the wrench over the chain wheel to the front wheel, standing towards the rear of the bike.0

That would depend entirely on where you've put the spanner... ;-)0 -
Oh, and don't forget to grease the thread on the new ones before putting them on!0

yes, and regularly take off the pedals and re-grease as well.0
