They're opening a Bike Hut store near me in Twickenham.
Apparently they have branches in Putney and Brighton.
Anyone had experience with them - are they any good?

Is it just Halfords under a different name?0

Its supposed to be halfords specialist bike store. Ok pricewise if you are buying one of the brands they do because of bulk buying power, but not the aftercare and attention you'll get from a local bike shop IMO.I have pain!0

That figures. Looked a bit suspicious! I'll avoid them then.0

The one in Putney is definately better than your usual halfords - they also have Airbournes and Condors in stock so there is somethign to look at.
I've not spent any money in there though, Putney cycles carries better stock for my LBS needs and anything that is not urgent is usually bought online.0 -
My opinion is to pop in a see what you think.
My ex-local halfords/bikehut was looked after by a very keen road rider who definately knew his stuff and was a pleasure to deal with. In fact i'd go as far as to say the place was equal to my current LBS.
I'll however conceed that apart from the guy that knew alot and was very helpful the rest of the staff were not that good.
Just judge it for yourself imoFCN 7

if you use irrational measures to measure me, expect me to behave irrationally to measure up0 -
i agree with chunky - we can't write them off as they are a chain relatd to halfords - there will be individual good ones and bad ones - you need to go have a chat and try and gauge the staff knowledge from conversation.0

Ok mind switched - I'll give them a chance. I need a pannier bag so i'll go in and quiz them.0

cool - let us know how you get on - if they are crap then we can all go back to slagging them off!0

They open on the 29th. I'll go and hammer them some.0

how good a halfrauds is depends on the staff they have, if you've got some keen cyclists in there then it becomes a good shop, if they're just teenagers after a bit of cash to do up thier corsa/ saxo then its a crap shop
the former is more likely to happen with the bikehut shops that are bike only.My signature was stolen by a moose
