  • On the mongoose the main diff is that the extra £30 gets you an alloy frame over a steel frame. Steel frames have their uses but at that price point it will prob be fairly heavy. So prob the more expensive mongoose should be noticeably lighter and will be a better starting point ot upgrade should you so wish.

    the giant is a further step up with slightly better components and a alloy handlebar as opposed to a steel one on the mongooses. Likely to be lighter still, transmission etc might be slightly smoother.

    Main test is to ride them & see which you prefer & whether you think it is worth the extra cash

    Have you looked at Edinburgh Bikes? They do a own-brand hybrids of various types - I commute on one I got in 2000, and it's still going strong. Prices about what you're looking at. They run other brands too.
