Something to carry a digital SLR camera safely?

Just wondering if anyone else ever takes a digital SLR camera out with them into the wilds on their bike? If so, what bags do you use to keep it safe and waterproof? The usual camera bags for venturing out into the wet British countryside seem too big and impractical - so anyone got any tips for something more practical?

I have a Camera Care Systems (CCS) padded SLR bag which fits on the waist belt of my hydro pack. Sling it round the back and it's fine. You can also add a shoulder strap for extra stability if necessary.
