Hi All

The wife is after a mountain bike. I have a trek 4300 and want to get the girly something similar. Can women use mens bikes or does she really need a womens bike. Might sound a daft question but hey :P
Cheers

Get her to go out and try some bikes, that's the best way to find a bike she's comfortable on!

A womans body can require different frame geometery, and often female specific components (e.g. handle bars and grips are smaller for smaller hands). Look at Specialized they are really pushing their marketing towards the female consumer group at the moment!

crucial thing is getting the saddle right. needs to be as soft as an armchair lol

Depends on their height really. My Ex was only just over 5`0" so needed a short frame with a short stem to get a comfortable position. Most STi brakes can be adjusted now with shims for reach. Early levers can be a hell of a stretch for ladies small hands. Some wider tyres might inspire some confidence too
  • my gf got a giant yukon W at £300 at the time (http://www.venussports.co.uk/images/19_Giant_Bikes_-_Mountain/Yukon2007.jpg)
I'd recommend a womens bike and there's many about to choose from these days at all price ranges.
this one was pretty good really, hayes cable discs, 100mm forks, truvativ cranks and shimano gears etc.
