I am about to buy my girlfriend a new bike. I intend to nick her wheels and cassette. My question is is it ok to put my used cassette (probably under 2500 miles) on her new bike, and likewise her new cassette on my old bike. Would it be a good idea for me to run a new chain on my bike?

Thanks

2500 miles is enough that a new chain won't run on the used cassette.
Keep the chains with the cassettes, so she gets your old chain with the old cassette, and you pinch her chain as well
  • Ok thanks. I take it that the chainset will be ok to keep on the bikes?

Should be. You only need to worry about wear on the chainrings when they start to look like a ninja's throwing star.
    I have pain!

I would say it's a bad idea to give the one you really care about something you installed, used and not tell her. Tha's just cheesy.
  • Who says I'm not telling her?
