Im looking to find a really robust hardtail that will take on hell of a beating,
i live in sheffield and ride at least twice a week in the peak district. (rocks rocks and more rocks)
my problem is i cant seem to find quite the right set up although i have tried about 5 bikes in the last year iv not felt totally happy with any of them.
so far iv tried
kona cinder (too felxi and not great at decending )
merlin malt 1 (again flexi climbed like a goat but i couldnt throw it around enough)
plannet x armadillo (the best so far a bit of a compramise but climb ok and decended well)
orange ms isle (the best by a long way downhill but kills your legs climbing)
the last two are the sort of thing im looking for the orange had downhilling sorted but after an 8 hour ride id be totally nakard even after been at the back holding people up all day.
it was set up with 120-150mm stance forks so i could wind them down for the climbs.
Just thought id check and see what anyone had to say im thinking about building up an orange sub zero to see how that compeared .
any other tips frame , fork wheels, ideas ? (oh the cove stiffe is out of the question as the two people i ride with have them.and i dont want to be a sheep)

Oh im only 5"9 so i can get away with small frames i think the ms isle is a 16"0

Cotic Soul - takes 130mm fork, Cotic BFe, hardcore brother to the Soul
On One 456
DIalled Bikes frames - I think the one you'd want would be the Prince Albert.0 -
all steel frames interesting i think someone in my cycling club has a onone 456 might see if i can give it ago0

I didn't mean to recommend steel only - just you've eliminated a number of the "usual suspect" ali frames already! I went for a steel frame in the end (Cotic Soul) and so far I am very pleased with it indeed!0

I'll second the Cotic Soul, a very nice bike but according to the Cotic site they are almost all sold and there are no Mediums left.
The Pace RC303 is well though of I'm thinking of going for the newer Pace 305 myself, I think it will take upto a 150mm fork and is under 2kg0 -
yeah my list would be exactly the same as clanton. and cove would be in there too but you've cancelled that one out
456 frames have sold out at on-one and CRC so unless you can find another somewhere.

Perhaps an Orange Crush or Evo ( 6 or 8 ) - both solid hardtails that don't weigh too much.0
