Wheel size

I have a question about wheel size. My Rivendell Atlantis came with 26" wheels. I always tried to figure out why the bike overall had a squat look. This morning I put on 700's, and as a result it looks much better proportionally.
Can anyone comment on the merits of either size wheel?
The type of riding I do is a mix of hilly paved roads, and dirt fire trails.
Thank you for your input.

How do your brakes work with the different wheel size?

Ah, very good point.
Thank you so much. I guess this is not a quick fix!0 -
depends on his brakes really, they may well cope with 700c's

You may need to check you have sufficient clearance with a larger wheel in the frame. 'Toe-overlap' can be either a nuisance or just dangerous.0
