tinkling from hubs

There's a tinkling sound coming from my hubs when I spin the wheel. Time for a new wheel?

And if so, how urgent could this be? Could it actually be dangerous to continue riding?

There are Campag Ventos about 2 yrs old.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

If it is just the rear hub I would check that the lockring for the cassette is tight.
If it's both hubs then I'm totally flummoxed. :?

Are you sure it is in the hubs not the rims. Sometimes a bit of swarf will get loose inside the rim. You may get it out via the valve hole but it is nothing to worry about.
  • swarf nothing to worry about - ask the pun*ture fairies' advice on that one !

It can not get past the rim tape so should not cause problems.
  • if you can get the swarf out of the valve hole then it CAN puncture the tube as that's where it meets.

Only the valve goes through the hollow section of the rim and I don't think a bit of loose ally is going to wear through that in a hurry. Stll it is better removed if possible. Not much more you can do if you can not get it out.

If the noise comes from the rear while pedalling and freewheeling (as happened on my fairly new Veloce hub) then I suggest opening up and re-greasing. This worked for me. I don't know why this should happen. I have a set of 22 year old Victory hubs that have seen service with 3 sets of rims with no probs. Maybe they just don't make them like they used to!!
