Hey folks,

quick q for you - can you use a sram openglide cassette (force/rival) in a dura ace setup?

i'm trying to drop the rear gear ratio a bit as 11-23 with a 53/39 is just too big for me.

Only if SRAM fits on your hub.
If you've got more than one pair of wheels, a better option is to go compact chainset, then you can use whatever rear wheel and not be stuck with just the one. Or you could look at the other cassettes that Shimano does, I'm sure there will be a 12-27 in there somewhere. Might not be DA, but we won't tell if you don't.

SRAM cassettes are Shimano compatible, but as olr1 says there is a bigger range of Shimano ones available. Check their website or any on-line dealers.
  • reason i was asking is that the sram ones seem to go to 28t whereas the shimano ones seem to top out at 27t... I know 1 isn;'t a big different but I guess its partly pyschological too :-)

kinda reluctant to change to a compact on this though as I really like the bling of the DA chainset :-) although the rest of my bikes have compact

Shimano say that the largest cog their road mechs will take is a 27 but you should get away with a 28 with care setting up.

This week I fitted a 30t Shimano cassette in a shimano setup....

I was well impressed as I didn;t have to tune the gears after the upgrade
