I am refurbishing a friend’s mountain bike and require a square taper compatible crank set with rings that will work on a 7 speed system and on an axle length of 118 mm, I need this to be as cheap as possible. Can anyone suggest a product.
If I have to change the bottom bracket as well then we can do this but again want to keep the price down the bike is English threaded, the shell width is 68 mm.
Thanks for your help

TBH replace the bb at the same time and get it to match the crank set you get.
But what is the buget for the new cranks?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

The cheaper the better, the bike is just used for light leisure with the family.0

Have a look on Ebay for Truvativ cranks ie the 5D0

all truvative crannks that have a square taper fitting use a 113mm axel length (except for 2-5 arm and 3 4 arm that can use a 108mm axel for a reduced chainline.
like i said look to replace the whole lot. Unless you can find the old cranks somewhere."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I was assuming he was replacing the whole lot, hence would get a BB to match it.0

that is what should be done."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I have found this one:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=22137
but how do i know whether it will work with a 7 speed chain?0 -
They are 7/8/9 speed compatible.0
-
Does that go for all parts, chains, rings, cassettes etc are interchangeable between 7/8/9 systems and between makes?0
-
No unfortunately not. Truvativ use a sort of inbetween size on chainrings which works with 8 and 9 speed chains. 7 speed chains are exactly the same as 8 speed ones.0

I sent an email to Chain Reaction who have said the following will work:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=7600
with this bottom bracket:

I really appreciate your help
