Has anyone any experience of DT Swiss wheels, particularly the 1450 or the 1850 versions. Are they quiet, reliable and run well?

Also, can anyone tell me where I can buy a Scape saddle as I have damaged mine whilst falling off ( fortunately a rare event) as I would really like to replace like-like>

Cheers.

I think there are a couple of people on here who have 1450s (I've seen a pic of a bike with 1450 Mon Chasserals).

However, I also read on here a couple of posts about issues with the rims with the 1450s.

I have a set of 1850s which I think most people would discount as being far too heavy -they were the same price as the mon Chasserals - but they are semi-aero and my riding currently involves very little climbing.
I have found even the slight increase to the 30mm rim makes things more "interesting" in crosswinds but then I do ride along the A183 with the wind straight off the North Sea.

The hubs are superb. I took a little while to get accustomed to the freewheeling noise as it’s like no other I've had on any bike.

I've only managed to put about 500-600 miles into them (being white I've only ever set out on them in the dry ) but have found them to be excellent and they've remained true, something that can't be said of my other wheel sets.

Oh yes, and they look uber cool!! 8)
  • Cheers, thanks for the reply. The info. is really useful, though I am still a little concerned regrading the noise when freewheeling. The guy at the LBS has got some 1850 wheels on his bike so I suppose I should ask to see what his sound like in freewheel. I take your point about crosswinds though.

The pictures of your roadie look superb!

    Thanks.

Any link to the bike with the 1450 Mon Chasserals? Thinking of these myself.

A bit like a Maxim gun. Its just very distinct from anything I'd ridden before. I'm assuming any DT wheels with their "Ratchet" system in will be similar.

Hope he doesn't mind me posting this - here
    Pretty nice for a "hack".

DT have experienced problems with spoke hole deformation on the 1.1 rims and those fitted to the Mont Chasserals - the fix is to use a double eyelet rim. For light riders it hasn't been a problem.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Thanks for the pic! They aren't without their problems though obviously!
  • The Ridley with the zip wheels looks well sexy.

I went down to my LBS to have a listen to his 1850's and the description of the freewheel sound does seem very apt. The are rather noisy and quite different to any wheels have come across before.

The guy in the LBS ststed that Campag. hubs are even noisier. Are they loud on the freewheel. Could someone let me know. I was wondering about perhaps getting some wheels built with Record hubs and some DT Swiss rims and spokes.

    Any comments

campag about the same volume. reynolds are pretty noisy too. but by far the noisiest are the old am classic hubs ... great for frightening dogs and small children if that is your thing. I once had a car swerving out of the way because the noise was so loud.
