I have been offered a good deal on the 06 groupset. I know there were some revisions for 2007 but is the 2006 group still a good un? £230 for the set as opposed to £370 for the 07 is there such a difference?

07 has the Quick Shift front mech and shifter plus Ultra Torque cranks. Can't say about the change from square taper BBs because I have never used Ultra Torque, but the difference in QS and the older 06 shifters is nothing to worry about.

I think the right lever has changed aswell for 07.

If I am right the new version you can only change one gear at a time, rather than sweeping, definatley a downgrade IMO.

I would go for the 06 and if you want use the savings to get a 'better' chainset.

I presume the deal is on the groupset rather than individual parts.......I would far rather have 2006 Centaur hubs because the the 2007 ones are a silver version of Mirage with a better skewer....in terms of the Ergos I would put up with the new innards to have the carbon blades, but thats just me.

If I was in your position and had to buy the whole group I would go 06 without a second thought.
I'd rather walk than use Shimano

I believe the 06 brakes are dual pivot-very powerful, and look very nice, while the 07 are the skeleton brakes are single pivot at the rear-some don't like the look of the skeleton brakes

Forgot thet one. I have 07 Veloce and you can shift about three at a time to the bigger sprockets, but only one to the smaller. I think Chorus is different though.

At that price, it has to be 06. Don't spend the money on a better chainset. There aren't any ;) Spend it on tyres/saddles etc or on a wheelset upgrade. Or take a trip somewhere nice.

06 Centaur is an excellent group, and you'll have no regrets. Buy it before someone else does...
  • Thanks everyone, 06 it is then!
  • Another vote for 06 here. I'd still pick it if they were the same price!
