  • I heard there are some hybrid type pedals, with clips on one side and flat on the other.

    Are these any good?

There are plenty of such pedals, however I prefer clips both sides. With one-sided pedals you have the problem of flipping them over to the correct side (oftem requiring a look down, and / or a fumble when you get going), with double-sided you are always on the correct side (no need to look, just push away and they clip in by themselves). I encouraged my friend to swap to the latter and despite disbelief in my theory that they are easier, she has taken to them like a duck to water.

Even with my double-sided pedals I can still cycle on short trips to the pub or shops, even in ordinary street shoes, without a problem. For any longer rides I wear cycling shoes, so I really think hybrid pedals are unnecessary.
  • Hi....In the £39.99 price bracket this little pedal is better value than the shimano 540.It is compatible with spd cleats also. And is lighter than the shimano 540. On offer at the moment at J E James cycles. This is were they are at http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/id31688.html

That's a nice looking pedal, quite minimalist, light (I guess the magnesium spindle helps with that)
