Astana!

Considering his slagging off Discovery moment a couple of months back it's a bit wierd.

You think? Money talks very persuasively at times.

It's bad news for Evans as he loses his most consistent mountain domestique. One does wonder at times whether Lotto is the right team for man with GC ambitions in the Tour.

He's got Popovych now, who if he maintains his Discovery form, is stronger than Horner. But Horner and Popo would've been a much better bet.

Evans should probably be on a team like CSC, but I think his personality probably won't fit.

Apparantly they might be riding Treks.

I'd hoped we'd seen the last of those things.

me too, you can't move for the buggers round here. All ridden by Lances' disciples.

Ah, but surely having been at Disco, his form is entirely due to their wholely undetectable super-doping programme!
Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.

Ha! That's funny - he is pretty calculating and very unemotional - him and Leipheimer are so much alike in so many ways it's scary - even their riding styles. Neither attacks much, they limit losses and just ride consistently and grind people down. Evans will miss Horner as will Lotto - he's an excellent rider and can make chances for himself from time to time. The move to Astana is odd to me as I didn't think he had much of a relationship with Bruyneel, but he probably just got a decent offer - Lotto treated him like a neo pro as far as salary was concerned...

His move makes sense to me, considering what he's said about his salary and time left in the sport... Why not try to go out on top supporting AC.

    Good reading here:

Suggests that Horner's beef was with Lance rather than Bruyneel.

Interesting. We know Lance played a big role behind the scenes with Discovery, from tactics to finance. Is he in anyway going to be linked to Astana?

    Fairly candid interview

So it was Levi getting him onboard.

A good signing, though there are teams out there that could use a guy like Horner way more than Astana. Lotto, for example. I don't get their market dealings this year. They are losers on all fronts, as they lost Fast Freddie on the McEwen Express after not really replacing Steegmans last year. Then they don't renew the contracts of Horner and Juffre (they didn't renew Juffre, right?), while Evans says publicly he wants those two guys at his side. I understand Popo must command a substantial salary, but is he worth three very good helpers? I'm getting the impression Lotto are really not sure where to fire their guns anymore. There's quite a selection of very dispensable "classics" guys there, IMO.

    It's really very simple.
He's a Pro. read " he makes his living out of cycling."
If you think for one moment that politics or anything other than pecuniary considerations enter into the equation then you really ought to look at how you would behave in a similar situation if your livelihood depended apon your employers moral stance.
