Ive ordered a while back a new Scott Spark 10 bike, just been told by shop its now been delayed by 2 months, BUT they can buy the frame & build the bike to the exact spec. as what comes from the factory. However, they advise I upgrade the brakes for no extra charge (on goodwill) from XTR to Hope mini pro. They also advised changing the wheels- again at no cost from DT Swiss hubs & rims to Hope Pro 3 straight pull.........
I will be using the bike for general off raoding- not racing. I have much experience with mountain biking- 14 yrs ago I used to race but after a long break am now getting back into it & things have changed so much, I have no idea if these upgrades are good!!???
Please help.
Cheers

First things first, are you sure a Spark is what you want for a general purpose bike. It's a fantastic bike but it is a race bike. A 5" full susser like a Stumpjumper/Trance X/Mount Vision would be much more versatile.

If you're convinced by the Spark, then Hope Mono Minis are good brakes and certainly cost more than XTR but I wouldn't say they were better.

As for the wheels, the straight pull ProIIIs are great, light wheels but are more difficult to get replaired for in a hurry - everyone has normal spokes, most bike shops won't have straight pull spokes in many lengths. ProII wheels with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes and Mavic XC717 rims would be as light and strong but would take a normal spoke as a quick repair if necessary.

There is absolutely nothing wrong woth those parts. Generous offer from the shop, but they are great parts.
