I saw that article as well, but don't understand how it wouldn't work. After all, a magnet is a magnet, isn't it?
Anyway, according to a Cycling News article, Iban Mayo's TdF bike had a pair of R-Sys boots with a Polar CS400.
Take a look here for his setup spec. Good luck with it.0 -
I think the Polar CAD200s are great computer but are a bit fiddly getting the magnet to work with the sensor - you need to get the distance and position just right I've found. So if the magnet isn't the strongest in the world or difficult to see where it is in the spoke then it will take time and patience to get it right.
I made my set-up easier by using a rare earth magnet which is several times stronger than normal magnets so position is less critical. You can buy them for about 99p from Maplins etc.0 -
COULD NOT make my CS200 work with the Mavic magnet....
..then realised that the only problem with the Polar magnet was that the spoke hole was too small. So out with a 4mm drill and all now works
If you do this remember to tighten the screw/nut a little before drilling - until the sides of the magnet "slot" are parallel - so the drill doesn't force them apart. Also the screw does encroach a tiny amount so can scratch the spoke if you move the magnet once it's tightened.0
