The Arab laws on "Honour killings"....

I've been reading a debate on another forum about laws in the Arab world...for example:
Jordan:

Part of article 340 of the Penal Code states that "he who discovers his wife or one of his female relatives committing adultery and kills, wounds, or injures one of them, is exempted from any penalty."

Syria:

Article 548 states that "He who catches his wife or one of his ascendants [sic], descendants or sister committing adultery (flagrante delicto) or illegitimate sexual acts with another and he killed or injured one or both of them benefits from an exemption of penalty."

The thread where I read this can be found at http://forum.football365.com/index.php? ... 7&start=0&

Obviously, under most people moral standards this is wrong, and of course under most penal systems.

My question is this though...if I was married and went to one of these countries, and found my wife committing adultery while I was there, and in a fit of rage killed one of them, whose law am I under? Would the foreign law on "Honour killings" stand, or would I be prosecuted under the laws of my home country?

This might sound like a daft question, but I'm not too clued up about this stuff...and before anybody mentions it, I'm not going to bump anyone off. I'm just curious!

  • It depends if you manage to seek asylum.

I think you'd probably get deported though for their own political interests and relations.
