the one that fits YOUR head best, a poor fitting helmet is a worthless helmet.

  • I've a met parachute which is ace imo. Some don't like the looks though!

Whyte 46, i fall off it alot!!
  • Go to your local bike shop and try some one. Defiantly try on a cheaper Bell. There good for the price and very safe, but don’t fit everyone.
  • ha ha thats not fair, i made a thread in the buying advice section (the correct one i think) yesterday about full faces and no-one said anything!
the parachute is certainly different. might have to see one in real life it just seems rather feeble but i guess it would save me from having to use 2 helmets for XC and harder stuff...

MET parachute is not a true full face helmet - it certaintly won't offer the facial protection that a freeride / downhill specific full-face helmet will

there are great helmets available from Specialized (Deviant glass fibre), Bell (Bellistic), Giro (Remedy glass fibre), 661 and other brands within your budget

go shopping and try some on! should be a snug fit (without giving you a headache) and make your eyebrows move when you move the helmet (this means it is tight on your scalp)

Can't say I ever had a problem with my Bell Bellistic. Sure it was around the £60 mark.
  • those bell's are mighty cheap on chain reaction

Does the MET parachute actually offer any extra protection at all? Fancied one myself for xmas but when the guy in the LBS showed me how flimsy it was I thought twice.

Not after a full facer for the XC riding I tend to do but the in between protection appealed to me. If it would take the impact instead of my teeth then it may still get the thumbs up!

Has anyone see or heard of them shattering in a crash and causing more injury as that was my first major concern!

if it fits your head the Specialized Deviant glass fibre is one of the lightest and most ventilated helmets that still meets the safety standards for DH and FR

  • the azonic fury(£60) and the fox rampage(£95) are both awesome helmets for the money and both have removable liners. i wouldn't bother with one that you can't take the liner out cos you will just end up needing a new one 6mths later. depending on how much you ride i guess. no point having a helmet if it smells so bad that you cant put your head in it...
  • Hey steve f, my met para not flimsy atall. Granted it aint a 'proper' full facer but i'm sure it'd take a face plant. Chin peice comes off too if you just wanna use it as a normal lid from time to time. Don't think it'd shatter though! Sayin that i aint face planted in mine.........yet :o

go to your lbs and try a few on...

what ever one fits the best is the one for you...

im sure you can get a deal for cash as well!
  • i use the sixsixone strike 2007 and its awesome. Comfy and well vented. I think its £65 on CRC.

If i had £100 to spend though, id probably go for the Fox Rampage

    I use a 07 661 strike.

It only cost £70 and fits a treat, not to mention its sick looks....

However, I strongly agree with checking out around different shops and trying different makes, models and sizes.

    hope this helps

Evans are doing Specialized Deviants for £60 on there webbie. Just got one - incredibly light and ventilated without looking pointless (like the Met).
