So I thought I'd have a poke around the new station yesterday evening and was leaving when I got pulled up by a couple of police.

They said they wanted to check if my bike was stolen, took the bike number, took details off me, ran a check on me and let me go, very nice they were too.

Said this was under the terrorism act.

Anything to do with the camden cyclists demo there you reckon, cos I don't really believe they are concerned with tracking down stolen bikes. I could be wrong though.

It has been sugested that to a terrorist, a bicycle is a great big pipe-bomb.
    Hence the police interest.

There never has been a case of a bike being used in this way, but you can't be too careful, huh?

There have been cases of bikes used as bombs- not in England, but it has been used elsewhere

Did you suggest hey go and try similar at Brick Lane?

though given the wording of this thread I wonder if GCHQ are tracking everyone down right now or showing similar efficiency of their police colleagues and probably arguing who's turn it is to brew up?

I wouldn't think they'd be doing this for very long? Seems reasonably sensible, though. Wasn't there a news story that you'd have to be able to prove a bike is yours these days?

At Edinburgh's main station, they have reasonble bike racks (always mostly full) which you arent' supposed to leave your bike at over night. You get a bit of paper attached to the bike, and basically 2 weeks to remove said bike.

If you leave a saddle bag (or other bags) they get 'searched' (or ripped up most likely) and you have to pay to get them back...

Sounds like the sort of harrassement used against protesters that I grew used to in my protesting days.

Its funny that the police suddenly become very interested in certain crimes only when they give an opportunity to stop and hold up potential or actual protesters.

Also - the idea that a bike bomb is a very serious immentent threat and yet cars and vans can go anywhere they like.

    B ollocks!!!
