Masks in the cold

Hi,
I suffer a bit from cold-induced asthma... when it's cold and I'm working hard, the cold air irritates the back of my throat and I get mild asthma symptoms. I can sort it with an asthma-pffer.
But I wondered whether a mask would help warm the air and stop (or reduce) the problem.
Any thoughts??
Cheers, Mombee.

The one time I used a pollution mask I found it awful. It restricted my breathing, and seemed to get damp making it even harder to breath.
My other half suffers from similar asthma, and simply wears a scarf round her mouth, or a ski-balaclava to warm the air up sufficiently not to trigger it, but without the breathing restriction.
If you've got a suitable scarf, give it a go, and see what happens!

I use a buff for probably the 1st mile of my 15. Gives me the chance to ‘acclimatize’ to the cold air. Then gets dragged off over the helmet and sits on my wrist for the rest of the journey.0

Also use a buff/neck tube, start off with it pulled up over my nose and mouth, after a couple of miles though my face feels like it's in a sauna and I pull it down to just keep my neck warm...0

Another thumbs up for a Buff from another asthma suffer.
Also handy to have with you if your riding through hail stones to take the sting out of them.0 -
i dont have asthma but i recommend a buff, i use it all the way on my commute but when i stop at lights i pull it down to let my breath move off otherwise my glasses steam up as soon as im moving again i pull it up over my mouth again. I wear it like a balaclava so its very warm!BMC TM01 - FCN 0

Dear Santa: get me a buff!!!!!!!!
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
I wore two buffs this morning! A normal one up round my head and ears, covering the top of my head and my forehead, and then a polar buff round my neck with the fleecy bit up over my chin.0

I just ordered a Buff Typhoon - windstopper, fleece, the lot. I'm worried it might be overkill but it's only for the depths of winter in Edinburgh. I'll let you know how I get on with it.Bike lover and part-time cyclist.0

I have grown a winter beard! I'm just getting used to it though - looking in the mirror first thing in the morning still a shock!
Also, I look a lot like the guy out of Half Life...
PS and the other morning it filled up with dew.0 -
